Description of Duties
The Board (ZBA) is a quasi-judicial body authorized under Chapter 40A, section 12 of the Mass. General Laws to hear:

  • applications for special permit under certain sections of the Town of Stow Zoning Bylaw
  • petitions for variance from the provisions of the Zoning Bylaw
  • appeals from actions of town officials as related to zoning

The ZBA is empowered under Chapter 40B of the Mass.General Laws to hear applications for Comprehensive Permit concerning the development of affordable housing.

Filing information maybe obtained through the links on this page and available at the Town Clerk's office.

Members are appointed to 5-year terms and the first members were appointed in 1950.

All Zoning Board of Appeals special permit, variance and comprehensive permit applications for hearing are to filed with the Stow Town Clerk.

Generally, the deadline to file an application is the month prior to the Zoning Board of Appeals next regularly scheduled hearing date.  Check with the Town Clerk's office or the website meeting calendar.
