The Residences at Stow Acres Comprehensive Permit Application Filed with the Zoning Board of Appeals

On Friday, December 8, 2023, MCO & Associates filed their application for a Comprehensive Permit for the consideration of “The Residences at Stow Acres” project with the Zoning Board of Appeals. The application is one part of the Stow Acres Planning Process, a collaborative effort between the owner of Stow Acres, MCO & Associates, the Town of Stow, and the Stow Conservation Trust. This effort has resulted in the conservation of the South Golf Course, the purchase of part of the North Golf Course for conservation and recreation, and the development of a village style housing community (the subject of this application) on the remainder of the North Golf Course.

For residents who have been watching the Stow Acres Planning Process over the years, the contents within the application will look familiar to the concept plans presented at the 2021 Special Town Meeting. For new residents new to Town, now is a great time to learn more abut the proposed housing portion of the Planning Process.

This project consists of 124 for-sale single-family homes, 40 rental cottages, and 25 age-restricted rental apartments. The mix of housing will provide different types of housing for all types of families, those looking for more space or to downsize, and those who are looking for housing options not yet offered in Stow.

Because the project is petitioned to be permitted through a Comprehensive Permit (pursuant to MGL Chapter 40B), affordable housing will be included. Of all 189 new housing units, 46 will be deeded affordable for income eligible families and individuals. These additional units, once permitted, will add to Stow’s Subsidized Housing Inventory, bringing the Town above the 10% affordable goal of the Commonwealth.

The first Public Hearing for the application will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at 7:00pm. The meeting will have an in-person and online option. The in-person meeting will be held at Stow Town Building, 380 Great Road. The online portion of the meeting will be held on Zoom, click the Notice of Public Hearing for the link.
