Elected Offices: How To Run for Local Office
RUNNING FOR AN OFFICE IN THE LOCAL ELECTION

HOW TO GET YOUR NAME ON THE LOCAL ELECTION BALLOT
STEP #1: RESEARCH & DECIDE WHAT OFFICE YOU WANT TO RUN FOR
- See what offices are up for election this year
- Attend a zoom meeting, talk to current/past elected officials, read up on the latest Minutes
- Candidates must be registered voters in Stow to become a candidate for office. Online Voter Registration Information
STEP #2: EMAIL TOWN CLERK & REQUEST NOMINATION PAPERS
- Deadline to request papers is March 29th at 5:00pm
- townclerk@stow-ma.gov
- Include your name, address, and desired position
- The Town Clerk will provide nomination papers & instructions
- Candidates must collect a minimum of 39 certified signatures of registered voters
It is recommended that Candidates: collect 45-50 signatures in case some can’t be certified & review “How to Sign Nomination Papers”.
STEP #3: RETURN NOMINATION PAPERS TO THE TOWN CLERK
- Deadline to return papers is March 31st at 5:00pm
Stow Registrars of Voters will process all nomination papers & notify candidates if they have qualified to have their name on the ballot.
