Certificates - Birth, Death, Marriage

Vital records are handled through the Town Clerk’s office.  

A birth record will be on file in Stow if the person's parents were living in Stow at the time of the birth or the birth occurred in Stow. A birth record is also on file in the community where the birth occurred and at the Massachusetts Registry of Vital Records and copies may be obtained from there as well.

A death record will be on file in Stow if the person resided in Stow at the time of the death or if the death occurred in Stow. Copies of death certificates may also be obtained from the community where the death occurred if it occurred in a nursing home or hospital. Copies may also be obtained from the Massachusetts Registry of Vital Records.

A copy of a marriage certificate may be obtained from Stow if the marriage intention was filed in Stow. Copies may also be obtained from the Massachusetts Registry of Vital Records.

  • Contact the Stow Town Clerk by emailing townclerk@stow-ma.gov OR calling  978-897-5034, to confirm the record(s) are filed in Stow.
  • Download the Request for Information form. Download the Instructions on how to fill out the form.
  • Fill out the information for each document requested.
  • Return the completed form to the town clerk with the appropriate fee.  
  • Certified copies are $10 per copy. Currently, requests for vital records are completed within 5 business days.   

For any of our vital records prior to the 1900's, please call the office to be sure we have the documents and to make an appointment if you wish to view the documents. This is important especially if you are searching for mulitple people or families.  The file linked below has records thru 1850.
