Tax Preparation

AARP has cancelled the tax preparation program for the rest of this tax season.  If you have not already filed your taxes please contact a family member or trusted friend to assist you.  You may consider other options such as hiring a paid tax preparer, purchasing on-line tax software or contacting an organization such as VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance – if your income is less than $56,000.

If you are a Stow senior resident in need of tax preparation assistance and your income is below $56,000 you may contact the Stow COA for assistance.  We have identified a volunteer that to prepare forms (but not sign them) using Turbo Tax software.  The following information would need to be provided:

  • Copies of last year's Massachusetts and Federal returns
  • Driver's license number, issue date and expiration date for all persons
  • All 1099 forms
  • All W2's if any
  • If not on Medicare, a form 1099HC from the healthcare provider
  • If you own your home, real estate taxes paid to the Town of Stow
  • If you pay rent, a list of to whom and how much rent is paid   
  • A list of itemized deductions such as medical and mortgage payments if deductions are over $12,400
