Mission Statement
The Stow Council On Aging is here to provide support to seniors by being a resource of information on elder affairs, provide social activities, outreach services, and help the senior population of Stow remain in their homes as long as safely possible.
Description of Duties
The Council oversees a wide range of programs and services for the Senior Citizens of Stow. Programs include Meals on Wheels, Drop-In Center, Exercise Class, Art Classes, Crafts Group, Bus Trips, Christmas Dinner, and Friendly Visitors. Services include Tax Assistance, Van Service, Medicare Information, Newsletter, Health & Housing Information and Referral, and other social services. A monthly newsletter is sent to all Stow senior residents providing a calendar of activities and events for seniors.
COA programs and services are provided by a full and part time staff, and by volunteers.
A lunch program provided by Minuteman Elder Services serves lunch at First Parish Church Fellowship Hall (next to the library) at noon. Come early for conversation and coffee, 11:30 Tuesdays and Thursdays for a donation of $2.00. Reservations are required by 11:00 A.M. the prior day by calling (978) 897-1880.
The COA Board meets the second Thursday of each month in the Friendship room in the lower level of the Town Building. They provide direction and advice to the COA staff through the Council's Director. There are no requirements or qualifications for Board membership. Those interested in the issues of aging are most welcome. The Council On Aging welcomes all.
