The Stow Board of Selectman created the Housing Partnership in 2005. Included in its initial charter were these responsibilities:
- Develop an affordable housing action plan for the Town;
- Review and negotiate with developers on housing proposals, prior to their formal
submission to Town boards;
- Identify local, state, and federal resources to further housing development; and
- Increase public awareness of Stow’s housing needs.
As part of the Master Plan process, Stow Housing Task Force and Stow Master Plan Committee engaged Community Opportunities Group, Inc. to analyze the Housing situation in Town. That group produced and the Committees accepted a Housing Production Plan suggesting an overall strategy and specific recommendations to create more diversity in the available housing stock. The first recommendation in that report was the creation of the SHP.
The qualifications to be appointed to this committee are that the Applicant be a registered voter of Stow and have an interest in short- and long-term planning for housing in Stow. After the original members' terms expire, members will serve for 3 years.
The SHP meets twice monthly, generally on the first and third Mondays of each month. The schedule is subject to change, however, so interested parties are urged to check the meeting dates posted in the Town Building. Associate Members are needed!
