BEFORE APPLYING YOU MUST MEET THESE REQUIRMENTS:

2) MUST BE A STOW RESIDENT OR BUSINESS OWNER IN STOW
Please note: THE STOW POLICE DEPARTMENT WILL CONDUCT A LOCAL AND NATIONAL CRIMINAL RECORDS CHECK. A CRIMINAL RECORD MAY DENY YOU A FIREARMS PERMIT. ANY FALSE INFORMATION ON THE APPLICATION WILL RESULT IN THE DENIAL OF THE PERMIT.
(Certain crimes are automatic reasons for denial, if you have reason to believe that you may be denied please contact Stow Police before applying, if denied, your licensing fee will not be refunded.)
The Stow Police Department is now participating in the new Massachusetts Instant Records Check System (MIRCS). This new system provides information directly link with the State, and provides new improved License to Carry and Firearms Identification Cards.
To obtain a LTC/FID please follow these instructions:
For First Time License:
1) Bring a copy of your gun safety course to the Stow Police Station
3) One of the three MIRCS offical will contact you to set up an appoitment time
4) Do NOT bring any photos it is not required.
For Renewals:
2) One of the three MIRCS offical will contact you to set up an appoitment time
3) Do NOT bring any photos it is not required.
What Happens at the Police Station:
You will be brought into the station and meet with one of our CLO’s. They will process you in the MIRCS computer system. They will then take a digital photograph of you, and scan in your fingerprint electronically. For those who are obtaining a LTC/FID for the first time two sets of ink fingerprints will be taken as well as an electronic fingerprint. You will be asked for payment for the License or FID per state regulations (see fee schedule below).
Once completed, the Licensing Authority will review your application and complete a criminal background check. Once completed and passed your license will be approved and you will be mailed the permit and information packet.
The fee's are as follows, no cash, check's only made payable to "Town of Stow":
Dealers License (including Gunsmiths): $100.00
License to Sell Ammunition: $100.00
Firearms Identification Card: $100.00
Firearms Identification Card - Restricted (Chemical Propellant Only): $25.00.
(No charge for renewal applications for “Restricted” FID Cards)
License to Carry Firearms: $100.00
(Includes license to possess machine guns)
Permits to Purchase: $100.00
Non-Resident and Non-Resident Alien: $100.00
Resident Alien: $100.00
No charge for residents over 70 years old
