An Important Public Safety Message
Is your street number visible?
Do you know that Stow’s General Bylaws require all houses and businesses to display the assigned street number?
(Article 3, Section 14)
Unsure of the correct street number? The annual town census/street list form will be sent to all households the first part of January. Be sure to use the street number listed on that form.
Fire Chief David Soar and Police Chief Mark Trefry remind residents that in an emergency “ every second saves lives”.~ A properly numbered house or business allows responding police and fire personnel to quickly locate your address. Here are some tips to properly display your house number:
· Place large, easy to read numbers on an area of your house most visible from the street.
· If your house is set back from the street, make sure you have numbers on a mailbox, post, or fence near the driveway entrance.
· The bylaw requires three inch tall numbers, though larger numbers are more visible from greater distances.
· Make sure the material you use will not fade or wear easily from weather. Reflective numbers are more visible at night.
· Choose colors that will not blend into the background the numbers are displayed on
